Porous lava rock?

I put some black volcanic rock into my tank for some hardscape, and I ran some pantyhose across it today and noticed it kind of gets snagged on the porous surface of the rock. Will these be safe?

I think a betta could get really scratched up and hurt by lava rock. I have a few in my backyard and they seem really rough.

I'm gonna remove them. I don't want my betta ever to get hurt on them.
