Radon and Bettas?

It's a super long story, but again my wishes and advice my boyfriend listened to his moronic father, loan officer and other stupid people in his life and bought a house with seriously high levels of radon. I mean like you need to be worried if it tests at a 4 pCi/L and his tested at 15 pCi/L. A 4 is like smoking over 100 packs of cigarettes a day, or having 100 chest x-rays a year. So... basically... I have a genetic predisposition to lung cancer (my grandmothers 7 siblings all died of it), and I really do not want to be in that house because I'm pretty sure I'll die. Anyway, I was debating moving a couple fish to the house. I would go over and care for them daily and spend a couple hours with them, so it wouldn't be like I dropped them and never returned. But, I'm worried about the radon in the air. They would not be in the basement. I will spend time there (unfortunately) because my boyfriend will want to spend time there. But, at this point I can not see myself moving into a home like that. To be honest, I don't even understand how they were able to sell it.

Any advice? I do not want to put my fish in danger. I have already decided I will not move my guinea pigs or dogs over to the house.

Yikes!! I would highly encourage your boyfriend to research radon mitigation systems- the levels can greatly be reduced by installing a certain ventilation system in the basement. Kinda pricey, but some people can DIY it. Nobody should be living in that and it's not good for your boyfriend! If the subject of moving in comes up, I'd make sure something like this gets done and the levels stay monitored.

Not sure how the bettas would handle it though, but if it were me and I had enough space at home, I would probably just keep them with me.
