Just watch out for ammonia levels. Having a filter doesn't actually help much until the tank gets cycled. I suggest that you read this article:

yes i know about cycling but that is a very good artical, i mostly atempted a seeded start, i took the plant from nemos vase setup that had been with him for a while and also added a bit of his water to the new tank. let that run for almost 2 days with it sittig in almost direct sunlight. i know it wasnt much but i feel it helped, just yesterday when i removed the filter to add the mesh to the filter the filter allready had a nice amount of slime started. i do however need to pick up a full testing unit
