Beating the heat!

Who else is suffering under the heat wave pounding down on the western US?

Today the high at my place was 99F. Inside the house it got almost as hot (96F), with very little airflow other than the fans. Had to even have doors and windows closed for the worst of it to keep the hotter air out.

What I did today: Kept putting out bowls of ice to melt into a cool drink for my cats. Put a frozen gallon bottle of water behind the fan on the floor for them, to create a mini-AC (also did the same trick for my main tank), and put out frozen 2L bottles with a towel wrapped around them for the cats to lay against. And I kept wetting my shirt and a washcloth that stayed around my neck, and would periodically squeeze another washcloth onto the cats, petting them to make sure their fur was good and wet.

What has everyone else been doing to cool down?

You can try to get ice packs; freeze it and toss inside tank. Other than that, I think you already mentioned all possible solutions. If it doesn't look safe, try to bag it up first and not let the water inside the bag.

I live in central Texas and it's hotter than Hades here with a heat index of over 100*. Of course we're inside with the ac on.

It's been a high of 115-117 here in Las Vegas. It's seriously gross when it's 4am and 102 outside. It's 91 currently and I never thought I would be grateful for the 90's.

But my house is not hot like yours - 96 INSIDE. It stays at a constant resting temperature of 78-80 downstairs to keep pugs, cat, fish and humans at a good level.

Do you not have AC? Because that I would die.
