Woah!

Guess what I found!? I found an old Aquarium hood down in my basement! It even has a light that works in it! It is from an old 10g aquarium I had when I was like 8. I'm SO excited!! I've been wanting live plants in my sorority, so this works perfectly! Uuugh now I have to wait... and wait...

I'm thinking about getting Duckweed for the top, Java moss and java fern for the bottom. Sound good? :)

Also, would a snail help it cycle faster? I need to get a snail for my spawning tank anyway. But, I don't know if they are sensitive to the water parameters like shrimp or not. So if someone could let me know... that'd be great!!

I'll put pictures on soon. I'm SO excited.

Sounds good! I still haven't been able to find/afford a light for mine...my plants are starting to suffer. I might have to transfer them to my uncle's tank.

As for snails, I'm not sure. The only ones I've had are those little pesky ones that hitch rides on plants...and i was always trying to kill those.

You would need quite a few snails or a few huge ones but theoretically yes you could.

I don;t know much about that, but I got a libe plant for my betta in his little 1 gallon bowl ,and he loves it, also at petsmart they sell little plants for every tank, and I either open the shades, or put on the light for a bit. As for snails, I don't know much about them

If you want to know anything about snails, I would suggest asking Lupin. He's the snail expert around here.

I'm incredibly jealous. HOWEVER, tomorrow is a parent teacher conference, and if all turns out well, I might FINALLY be able to set up that 55 Gallons ;D I'm very, very excited.
Good luck tomorrow!
