loose scale?

I have a male betta in a 2.5 gallon tank. He was in a 1 gallon bowl until this past Sunday when I moved him into an established 2.5 gallon glass tank. I noticed yesterday that it looks like he has a loose scale--I have no idea what it really is, but that is what it looks like. He seems happy, made a HUGE bubble nest that covers half of the top of the aquarium-lol.

Water parameters are normal--pH at 7.6 and all other tests at 0. I have live water sprite in the tank and it has been running for a while now--had a Paradise Fish in it before. The tank is heated at 78* and has a Red Sea Nano filter on it with the flow reduced with filter material in the intake tube.

Any ideas? It honestly looks like one of his scales is coming off. Other than that, he seems perfectly normal--he swims around a lot more than he did in the smaller bowl.

Forgot to mention that I did a 30% water change last night just to be safe--even after the tests were normal.

He may have bumped himself on something and tore the scale. Are there any sharp decorations or plastic plants in the tank? If he's acting normal, I would just keep an eye on him and make sure his water is clean to prevent infection.
