Question What is this white fuzzy stuff.....

Anyone have any idea what this white fuzzy stuff on the pagoda is in my 5.5 gallon tank? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Good evening ConnieW. I think it could be some sort of water mineral deposit. I would do a water test to see what are the parameters. By the way is Avondale near Glendale? I know someone who lives in Glendale, AZ.

I see a little bit of it on the plants, as well, especially near the bases. In my experience, (with gold fish tanks) that's been fungus, and was easily cleared with things like Jungle Fungus tabs. I'm sure someone will be along soon with better advice, but that's what I've got.

You could add some salt just in case it is fungus, and perhaps a 50% WC.

Yes, Avondale is near Glendale....about 5 miles west of Glendale. I used to live in Glendale.
Thanks for the idea of Mineral deposits. I have two other tanks and the water is all the same and the mineral deposits in those tanks are not fuzzy looking...just white.

The ammonia is a bit high in this betta tank at .6, the Nitrite is .3 and the Nitrate is 5. Temp is kept at 80F. This tank is only about 2 months old and I don't think the cycle is steady yet.

Thanks for the idea it might be fungus. Yes, I also noticed it on the base of the silk plant there too. I have never had fungus in any of my tanks before. I know nothing about it. Thanks!

I could do another PWC....I just did a 1.5 gallon PWC on the 10th.
I need to study up on fungus in tanks. Thanks!

What will salt do to the tank as a whole?
How much salt? Will it hurt the betta?
How do you get rid of the salt once the treatment is over?

He might be shedding his slime coat. That's what it looked like when one of my bettas did it due to medications. It can also be caused by an overdose of water conditioner.
