He's flairing at himself!

My little betta is constantly flairing up and attacking the side of his bowl (I'm assuming at his own reflection). Will he ever learn it's himself? Or will he just wear himself out? I'm afraid he's going to stress himself out too much..

Or am I just being a over concerned fish mom?

How long have you had him? It really depends on the Betta. Some will tire themselves out or realize that it's just themselves. I've had one before that would flare at his own reflection constantly for hours and hours on end. I eventually had to make a java moss wall to block his view of the glass on that side of his tank. Give him another week, most will stop.

I've had him since sunday, He's still fighting his reflection a lot today too. He's got some time still to adjust I guess.

I've got the same problem, except I've had mine since August. And he does it to all sides of the tank, so mossing a particular side isn't an option.

I'll give it another week and see what happens. He's not flaring all out anymore...lately he's still swimming really close to the glass and what not. Today though he's not all extra puffy and what not, so I think it's an improvement.

My newest has been flaring at me a lot. Kind of ungrateful, really, considering that I'm the one who feeds him. 8)

Haha yeah.. mine still is doing it and it has been a full week. But now it looks more like playing. He's not all out flaring like he was before. Which works because he leaves the one other fish in the tank alone because he's so distracted by himself.

Where is the light source? Sometime it's just a matter of moving the light in a direction that doesn't create a reflecting in the glass.
