Smile Hi! Questions Questions Questions!

Hello!
I'm another new Betta fish owner. So far I have a halfmoon betta (my picture taken with my phone :/) I think so far so good. Though I have two different books about bettas and taking care of them, I still have some questions and want to make sure my little guy's life is serene as possible. Any advice is welcomed!

1.I gave him his first water change and well wow! I couldn't stop sneezing and my eyes watered like crazy, has anyone else experienced this? It has three days since I brought him home, and I have a lot of allergies. Wondering if its me or if its common. Other then that it has been going swell.

2.He is fed two times a day, 8 am and 8 pm. Betta flakes with brine shrimp (one shrimp and five small flakes round the size of the shrimp) and twice a week he gets freeze dried blood worms ( 2-3). I'm pretty sure that is a good diet, but I'm afraid of over feeding him!

3. He lives in a 1 gallon round glass bowl with a mini heater so his water stays around 80 degrees F. And I plan on changing his water twice a week. His bowl without the heater falls to 70 degrees F and its not even winter yet! ( His bowl is on my desk near my bed and a window. No he is not exposed to direct sunlight)

Hello and welcome to the forum. Maybe there is something in the conditioner that you are allergic to. Also, since you have allergies you need to be careful handling bloodworms. Some people are highly allergic to mosquitoes and so they will be allergic to bloodworms, too. Most people feed their bettas 2 pellets in the morning and 2 in the evening. Bloodworms, brine shrip and daphnia can be fed once a week in place of pellets. A gallon bowl is fine since you are changing the water twice a week. You might want to upgrade him to a larger container sometime, if you can. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Question 1 That is not a regular simptom you might be alergect to your betta. Question 2 Only feed them the fish flakes. Question 3 They only need to be cleaned once a week with 7 drops of water conditoner.

I've never hear of anyone being allergic to fish before, but I guess it can happen...

Feed him brine shrimp or blood worms only once a week, twice at most. It also helps to fast him a day. Give him pellets/flakes two times a day otherwise.

Two WCs a week sound good! If you find his tank gets dirty, you may have to do it more often, or do complete WCs.

Welcome to the forum!
A good feeding schedule is 2-3 pellets 2x daily with one day set aside for fasting. If you have a heater I wouldn’t be too worried about the water temp until it starts falling below 75 degrees for a long period of time. Changing the water twice a week sounds like a good plan. As far as the allergies go I guess you just have to find the variable in the changing water equation that makes you have an allergic reaction. And don't forget to have fun caring for you betta!

This is not correct. They like a varity. I mean would you like to eat the same thing day in and day out? Also as everyone else has said one a week water changes in that small of a tank is not enough 2 is much better. Good luck with your new guy and welcome to the forum and the betta addiction.
