New beta not eating

I recently purchased a new beta fish and I have a couple of questions. My fish will not eat. I have had him for over a week. I had to clean his tank 100% twice because his rocks dyed his water the first time and then i went a away for the weekend and his tank got dirty because of the food he didn't eat. He was in a .5 gallon tank and then i just bought a 2.5 gallon. He just sits at the top of his tank and swims around for a little bit. I will place food right in front of him and he will look at it and then just swim away. I have tried both flakes and pellets. So far none has proven worthy. I want him to be happy because i don't like any animal suffering. Please help! I have pics of him and the tank.
Food: Nutrafin max flakes
Aqueon Betta Food pellets

He seems very clamped. . .

Do you have a heater in that tank? I don't see one, so that might be the problem. Some people do this trick with garlic juice and soak their pellets in it, it'll increase the appetite of your Betta.

You also mention that your gravel leached it's color into the tank? It might've poisoned your Betta.

Thank you for replying!
I asked the guy at Petsupplies plus about it and he said it should be non-toxic. I only let the water sit like that was maybe 12 hours and the only reason I changed it was i noticed a color difference. He does have a heater. it has a temp between 78-79.
If he is poisoned, what should i do?
