I need help with a new betta set up

Yea when i put in new water and let my tanks have a week to filter before i get any fish i put in the ph leveler. I also take some water in to be tested.

So as i thought i had 1 goldfish left, and sadly he died 2 days ago. he didnt respond to the salt i put in the tank for him, But my pleco did, and he made a full recovery. =) So i have a pleco.... that petsmart told me would do lovely in a ten gallon... guess i'm going to need a bigger tank down the line.

Anyway getting my betta today. I really hope for a deep blue colored one. lets pray petsmart doesnt have sick ones this time. :( last time they all looked really bad. So i made sure to buy a ton of items just incase it came down with any type of problem.
