Okay so I think that I have it all straight:
A minimum of 2.5 gallon tank
A heater (good brands?)
A filter (good brands?)
Either Wardley's or Hikari bio-gold
Some plant decorations(silk and if not test with a panty hose)
A cave for hiding
Oh, and a fish is fairly useful too;)
I do have a few fish tanks from previous fish in the basement somewhere, and one of them is glass but it doesn't have a lid which is nessecary as I have read. Is there a way to calculate how many gallons a tank will hold?
Thanks!
Oh, what is this MTS that I keep seeing in signatures? I am thinking that it is about fish addiction or smething along those lines...

I don't have a lid for my 10 gallon sorority because my tank has odd measurements. You lower the water a few inches, or find something like plexiglass to cover it (make sure it has room for breathing, of course).

For tanks around 7-2 gallons I recommend Hydor Mini Aquarium Heater at PETCO

For filters I've gotten good reviews of this one Tetra Whisper PF10 Filtration System at PETCO

They could survive without a filter but they thrive with one.

You'd have to do a lot of water changes - possibly full water changes if you don't have one.

You don't need a filter, but they will certainly make your life a lot easier. Cycling a tank means less water changes for you.

1. How large of a tank should they really have?
2.5 gallons and up
2. What type of food do they need? Are the pellets and dried bloodworms that I see in the fish sections okay?
Betta bio gold is the one I feed my bettas, and they love them!
4. Are live plants nessecary to have or are the silk ones I have seen mentioned okay?
Silk plants are good, but live plants are healthier and bettas seem to like them more. Never get plastic plants, it can tear their fins.
5. Can you use half marbles as a bottem for the tank or does it have to be gravel?
I use gravel in Nibbler's tank, and sand in Flames. I used to have half marbles in flames, but somehow he wedged himself under the rocks and got stuck twice. And i saw him jammed under them when I got home from 7 hours at school, so who knows how long he was stuck for.
