Flaring werdly?

My fish (Dorothy) seams totly helthy but when he flares the stuff that comes out that you cant see (unless they flare) is not on one side but comes out too much on the other side.

I'm worryd that he has some deses or birth defect that could kill him. My friends betta died of a birht defect of the gills. But my fish has been aroud for almost a year (longer than my friends betta) and seams purfictly helthy. he dosen't come up to breath more often then normal or anything like that. I am wondering if you have any idea to what this might be or if you know how to fix it.

Guys.... I think it's obvious what's being asked here. I think the OP is basically just saying that his/her betta can't flare completely, but only on one side. They're just asking if that's a problem or not.


But anywho, I have a betta that can only flare on one side as well. It won't effect his gills in anyway and he should be fine unless he has other symptoms that would point to illness. As far as I know, this seems to be a fairly common birth defect.

Yeah my betta got that too... It didn't seem to bother him and his 'gill frills' went back to normal in a few weeks. My best guess is that they can pull a muscle from flaring too hard. Nothing to be worried about though :)

he didnt have the problem when i got him... and he has had it for awhile now.

sorry for being unclear. im not shur what thos parts of a betta are called. i would try to take a picture but my camera is curently missing and i find it hard to get a clear picture of the gills.(with the fish not holding still and stuff)

i seamd to happen shortly after i got finn but they only saw each other every now and then untell i took away the cloth be tween there tanks. they dont flare at eachother anymore.

i just now realzed that he had this befor i got finn. the pictur in my avator conferms that. hears an old picture of dorthy where you can sorta see what i mean.
it will be on next post.

if you have good eyes you might be able to see the gills and how the stuff that only comes out when flaring is sorta out.
