It's touch and go. Sometimes they will get nippy but often this is a non-issue if you are keeping them in a proper school.

Yeah I think that it depends upon the tetras. I had 7 cardinal tetras in with my betta and I came back from class one day and my betta wouldn't come out from under the filter. Turns out they had been nipping his tail
