Can you plant watersprite trimmings?

Also, what is a good liquid fertilizer? I've read that watersprite relies heavily on the water to get nutrients.

Seachem flourish comp is a great liquid fertilizer. Also subbing to see the answer to your first question.

When water sprite grows, a few new growth parts of it will have roots that grow from it. These parts you can clip off and it will form a new baby water sprite that will grow to a larger size with time. Parts that fall off, break off or get knocked off without that root system, will normally always turn brown and die with time. It might take them a few weeks to a month to turn brown and die but without the roots on it, they will die.

Oh of course you can replant the trimmings!! I snipped a few pieces of my water sprite to add one to the other corner.

This is one of the pieces I snipped/replanted(there was no roots where I snipped). It's been a little over a week and it's sprouting new growth.

I have no useful information to add, but hey, trim them off, plant, and see what happens. :) Worst case scenario the trimmings die and you pull them out, best case, you get new plants. :)
