Thanks for the replies guys, i kinda figured that ,but had just never seen them act that way b4. the passing by the food still seems strange for beggers

All my bettas do that, especially since my room is naturally dark. They don't seem to like light much.

I usually turn the lighs on in the room first. Then about 10 mins. later I turn on the tank lights. Seems to work for me cuz they're pretty perky when those tank lights go on.

And yes, begging is their favorite pastime (well that and showing off).

i agree too, after 8pm my hubby is NOT allowed to turn on any lights in the kitchen, ahem, my fish are sleeping

ya I noticed my little betta baby do that too, when I go in my room and turn the light's on. He's either sleeping a deep sleep and take's a few minute's to come back or he sleep swim's trying to find a dark corner but after a few minute's if I'm still in my room he's back to his normal self.

but ya I feel bad to disturb him like that, I wish I could see in the dark *lol*

that must be the norm. BTW i use my cell phone light after turning the lights off for a while and u can watch your fish without them giving u a second look. interesting behaviors...
