cleaning a divided 10 gal?

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and pretty new to fish. I currently have a CT black/red male in a 2 gal (pics are in the pics forums). I want to use my uncle's 10 gal and divide it and put him and another male on the other side. But my question is, how often would it need to be cleaned completely? i.e., I don't want to have to dump it and carry it to the sink weekly. I would also like to put cory on each side possibly. Would this work?

there is a BEAUTIFUL male I saw at walmart today and want to see if he is there tomorrow... if he is think i'll get him... if not, there is a really pretty cambodian colored CT at Petco that I think the "Average" betta buyer would find ugly and i want to take him home too... how do you stop yourself from bringing tons home?!?!

I don't. aha. I just got another today. You don't need to completely change it if you have a gravel vacuum and you to 10-30% changes in water weekly. And you could have ADF, snails, or shrimp for the 5 gallon sides, but it would be too small for cories. (since they need to be in groups of three at least)

It's really hard for me not to keep buying them. I see some and feel SO bad for them. I'm up to 5 now..and I originally just wanted one. It's and addiction, be prepared.

Yep. Be prepared!!! :D I just wanted one too... look where I am eight months later. :D Ha!

Yeah! Get a gravel vacuum! They are only about 5-10 bucks, so not expensive.

I think I'm like the only regular with one betta... for now. I got 50 bucks from my in-laws for Christmas! :P

But to chime in, if you get a filter and do like lily said, you should do fine. You can cycle a ten gallon. Read up on cycling a fishtank. I don't have the link but I'll edit and add it.
