Question on Filters & Betta.

Introduction: Hey Guys, im pretty new to this site, i have been browsing around alot but i never really made an account so here I am with an account and with my new betta fish i got today.

I got my new betta fish today and i was wondering about my filter. It seemed like it was dragging my fish EVERYWHERE!, i felt like it was having a hard time swimming in a way without completely effecting him. I tried to reduce water flow as much as possible on my filter but its just not enough and i dont know how to make it even less powerful.. Im kinda stuck here on what to do =/

o ya and quick note.. my betta has been hiding behind my thermometer.. is this ok for the betta to do? and another questions is that why are my bettas scales somewhat black.. will they go back to the color they were before?

BTW my betta is not the original kind and i know this for a fact, i will try to post pics as soon as possible. Also i tried feeding my fish the day i got it and it wont eat the pellets.. i just htink he wont see them ( i have a 10 gal tank just for him, adding tankmates in 2-3weeks)

PH- 8.4 Alkaine - 300....... is this ok? if not, what do i do and how do i do it?

ya im thinking about taking the pictures today but i really want to wait a week or so the fish can get his color back... hes been going through some color loss... and he is having a hard time eating his pellets... he always just spits them out!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sometimes bettas won't eat the first few days. They just need to get used to their new homes.

just looked up the type of betta and its a double tailed/veiled w/e its called

Try putting some sponge in the filter to stop the flow. He will become very stressed if his trip to the surface for air is stressful and he could start to become ill. Sounds nice though!

Or some people put panty hose over the filter to calm the flow down. Don't worry, he'll color up soon and start eating. If he's having trouble eating them, I would soak the pellets first before you give them to him or cut them up into smaller pieces. Bettas find weird places to hide, so as long as he isn't going to get stuck behind the thermometer, he'll be fine.

Yeah, I use a water bottle section on the out take to make the flow spread and put pantyhose over the intake.

Curled fins can be a sign of stress; just give him a few days. :)
