Question 100% water changes???

I'm still not really sure of how to change your betta's water. I've heard that you're not supposed to do 100% changes. If you don't, how much are you supposed to change? I only have a .5 gallon fish bowl (yes, I know that's too small). How are you supposed to change the water? Should you take the fish out of the tank while you do?

You're going to have to do 100% water changes if you have a small tank and you can't cycle it. I don't have filters on any of my 2.5Gs so I have to do 100% water changes. With a .5G bowl you're going to have to clean it basically every other day or 4 times a week 100% each time so the ammonia doesn't build up. And yes, you should take your fish out every time.

Okay, thanks! I just got a little confused with everybody saying that they do partial water changes.

Well if you had a 5G or 10G than you can do partial changes, but since you have a really small bowl, you'll have to do 100% because a partial change wouldn't do much.

You only do partial changes when you have a filter. For my filtered 10 gallon, for example, I do about a 30% WC.
But since the rest of my tanks are uncycled, I need to do 100% WC on them. The smaller your tank is, the more frequently you'll have to clean it.
I do one 100% WC weekly on my 5 gallon, but two 100% WC weekly on my 2.5 gallon.

You'll have to remove your betta for those, of course.
