Okay, I'm getting really frustrated with the algea bloom. I'm pretty sure it's string algea, and it's dominating my tank. Doesn't matter if I give the tank a through cleaning, it just comes back. It's on my dividers, my plants, my filter, my heater, and even on the sides of the tank. Any tips on getting rid of it and making it stay away?
I'm still new to live plants, and I've been fortunate in the algae department, but what I've seen rec'd for general algae problems is to starve it.
Are your plants live? And do you use fertilizer?
If so, you might want to cut down on the fertz, this will let the plants compete for the nutrients and starve out the algae. I've also heard that marimo moss balls are good for algae as they also starve it out.
You could also get a snail, they're supposed to help with algae.
I don't know if that helps or not, and I know it's awful vague...maybe try posting over in the planted tank section?
The plants are live-red flame sword plants. The tank is a divided heated 10g housing 3 bettas. It's about 4 months old. I have two CFL Daylight bulbs on from 6am to 8pm for the plants.
Is that the info you need?
I thought about the snails, but my Walmart isn't getting any in stock right now. There's algea drops at Walmart to treat it, but I'm not too sure if I should buy that. No I don't use fert, I need to get root tabs though.
