Fish-in cycle

I have one female betta that I'm moving to a 10 gallon. It will have gravel and decorations and a marimo, but I have no access to live plants to buy, so none of those. The tank will be divided later, but not for a while. I use a whisper 10i filter and I have a Jager heater ordered, as well as a test kit. I've heard that fish less is overkill for just one betta in such a big space, so I'd like to do fish in. How often should I do water changes and how much? I have tetra SafeStart, so when should I put that in? Thank you~ ᴗ͈ₒᴗ͈

I would suggest you get a water test kit. The most decent affordable one is the API Freshwater Master test kit. With your tank and stock though, you can do it safely without one. Just look over this thread http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=107771 and that should answer most of your questions. Hope I helped!

It really is easier than that. With a 10g and one fish, a 50% water change every day for the life of the tank. Rinse your filter in old tank water every month and never replace it.

Put the Safestart in a day or two before your fish.
