Hi...I'm new to this site and have 7 different bettas including an elephant ear. I am a rank amateur but have managed to keep my bettas alive, healthy and active. My oldest is about 1 year, maybe a little older...the rest varying from 10 months to about 3 months (my best guess). Most are of them are what I call 'rescue bettas' found half dead at Walmart swimming in terribly filthy water. They have all bloomed and grown under my 'un-proffesional' care. My oldest, Bluey, was dark navy blue when I got him. He was small and probably malnourished but he soon took to me and we have since been good friends. He started out in a half gallon tank but as soon as he started looking healthier he got his own 2 1/2 gallon. He has always eaten betta flakes that came with the aquarium starter kit. I have tried many type of food, dried shrimp, blood worms, etc. He will eat only the flakes so I figure he knows what he wants. I need to know if anyone can tell me: do bettas change colors? He developed a white belt-like band a few months ago and I panicked thinking he had a disease. Now all of his fins, tail and most of his body are pearl white with only his head still blue...but changing fast! I have scoured the web but found nothing really that answered my question. Anybody got some ideas? He eats and is active and very healthy acting...!?
