New tank for newish fish

yup.. in fact if you wanted to you can add it all now.. since your not going to divide it you would be ok with your fish, a snail or two, and 5-10 shrimp easy. The cycle won't hurt anything (as long as you keep up with water changes) so you can add your tank mates whenever.

Take some pics when your done... I love to see "finished" tanks :D

Today I added a heater as the water temperature got very cold the last few days thanks to global warming. I also added 5 shrimp and 4 neon tetras. I wondered about the tetras but the betta just checked the out and then left them alone.

If your looking to get the liquid test kit, the most recomended one is the API liquid test kit. Normally in retail stores it goes for $30-40, at walmart I think I've seen it for $25ish maybe. However check it out online Walmart.com: Freshwater Master Test Kit: Fish it shows it at $15. the product details says it does
Freshwater pH
High Range pH Ammonia Nitrite
GH (general hardness)
KH (carbonate hardness)
but if you read the comments it does the normal
freshwater Nitrate
fw Ammonia
fw NitrIte
fw ph (lor range 6.0-7.6)
fw ph (high range 7.4-8.)

I wouldn't add shrimp until your tank is finished cycling and stable. They're quite sensitive to water quality.

The shrimp are doing great along with George. However the 4 neon tetras I put in all died within a day of each other. I suspect it may have to do how much water conditioner I put in.

But today I got a Ivory Mystery Snail and an African Dwarf Frog.
