Please help!

My male betta just flipped himself out of our tank through a hole at the top of the acquarium onto the counter. We have a dual sided filtered tank with a gate between male and female betta. He was trying to get to other side (second time today) I think we caught the accident within 10 minutes or so. Anything I can do to help him? I put him back in and he is just hanging around the bottom of the tank, swimming (wiggling) as if he has no fins, but looks very lame (he is usually very active and feisty).
Thank you in advance for help.

he's probably in shock, and will get back to normal in a few hours. but it might be worth checking your water condition just in case he is trying to escape bad water conditions. I am assuming if you have two you have had them a while? and know about ammonia and nitrites and such. which you can get test kits for?

Thank you so much for your help and quick response. You were right. He is fine this morning. I will test the tank, but I think he was trying to get to her side. Thanks for the advice.
