Airbubbles...

I recently got a betta crowntail, and i noticed that there are a lot of air bubbles at the surface of water. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing...help please!!

If so, that is a bubble nest. Bettas make them when they are happy with their environment and is also a sign of being healthy. Bubblenests are what attracts the female to help with breeding. The bubblenest is where the male betta places the eggs once fertilized and will care for them until they hatch.

So, if that is similiar to what you're talking about, it's a very good thing!

well...it's not exactly like a nest....is it still okay? I've had 2 crowntails before this one and both of them didn't last over a week for some reason. The first one died from fungus, and the other one from clipped fins! And I have no idea why because I kept the water clean and fed them regularly..
I really don't want the same thing to happen to this one =(

My betta had that.....they went away eventually.

Mine have all had that and been fine, btw what is that you have him in?

If thats his permenant tank which is a reasonable size, You really need a lid. Cling film and an elastic band would work as a tempory percaution. You dont want him jumping out and "suffocating" :(

I am glad I read this because mine is doing the same thing. He made a huge "bubble nest" this morning when I came in. Aw he's happy!

I am weary of putting a "lid" on tanks or bowls, but if you do, make sure it is not cling film or something else that is air-tight, you want air circulating. I usually lower the water level to a level where they can not jump out. That way, if they jump, they do not get injured hitting any lid.
