For those with Eclipse 5 gallon hex tanks...

I recently switched my 5 gallon hex tank to black aquarium sand. It looks really cool but I'm having some issues, the sand clumps up into little balls in the botom of the tank so it almost looks like gravel. And when I reach in there and stir it up even a little the little balls float and now my filter just suddenly stopped working! I'm wondering if one of the little balls clogged it? I have sand in my ten gallon and I love it, I didn't think this would be such a pain.

Did you take the filter apart? I have the Corner, which has the same exact parts as yours. And if you take the filter intake tube off, and then pull the piece that it connects too off - you'll find a magnetic piece. If anything is in there, the filter will not work. It is a safety mechanism. I find it is best to clean it every so often anyway.

if you're worried about this you can attach a little bit of netting to the intake to keep stuff out
