Gas?

So, I've noticed my betta Sarge was more than a little bloated. He hadn't pood recently, figured it was just constipation. Gave him an epsom salt bath, and fasted him for a few days. He was having bowel movements but the bloating hadn't really gone down. Now, as I was sitting watching him, he positioned himself tail up and kinda braced himself against a plant and farted. I swear to god, three little bubbles came out of his anus and the swelling went right down. Could it just have been gas or does that sound like a damaged swim bladder or labyrinth organ?

I would have to say, I've never seen a betta fart. o-o

Ha ha ha! That must have been kinda funny to watch. I'd say it's gas.

Are you sure it came from his bum and not out from the gills near his bum because they do in fact burp, that's how they maintain proper gas levels in their swim bladder. They burp when they need to relieve pressure and suck in more air when they need more.

Almost positive, the way he had himself positioned, I could clearly see his rump and that seemed to be the point of origin, so to speak. I knew they burped, which was why I thought, "well, maybe it just came out the other end...wait, that could be a problem." I thought maybe there was a tear that may have let what was in his swim bladder leak out, there doesn't seem to be a wound though, and he's perfectly fine now. Im guessing your right, it was kinda just a "what the heck just happened" thing. Probably just the bloating keeping him from being able to burp till it went down a little.

lol!! well it is a funny story who knows he could have actually farted, I have just never heard of it so I wasn't sure, but if it looked that way well heck very well could be! it seems like it would be funny to see that though! ehehe
