Please don't tell me I have another tailbiter!

Ugh!
I checked him an hour ago and he was fine. Next check up, and:



ACK. I found there to be a lot of bugs on the surface of his tank, seeing as it is summer, humid and the lid was off of his tank, and the bugs were drawn to my desk lamp.
Is this tail biting, or did he blow his fins from getting angry at his buggy intruders? This doesn't look like when Frank would bite his tail, so I'm confused.

Either way, I put some of the oh so horrible blue staining medicine (the ruin-er of clothing and furniture, whoops) in there to prevent any fin rot, since I have no aquarium salt on me. I just put new, light-coloured gravel in there too! They will now be an ick greenish colour D:

Sounds like he could be biting his fins to me are there any other betta tanks close to him? I usually put a female tank beside a males and most seem to enjoy the visual company but one of mine would just get frustrated and bit his tail...I didn't know what was going on so I moved her and he hasn't done it since. Perhaps there is something visual disturbing your betta as well?

Argh! TWO tailbiters on my hands!
There isnt anything around that could have disturbed him, when his tank was next to frank's he didn't flare at him one bit. I moved his food container though, since he seemed to flare at it for some reason (probably the picture of the betta on it, ha)

yep, he's definitely biting his tail. and oh boy, do i feel your frustration. critter is a tail biter, and it drives me nuts! a while back i treated him for some fin rot that spread so rapidly that half his tail was gone in 1 day. he got all healed up and beautiful, and now for some reason he bites his tail. i'm constantly medicating the little booger! i wish i could read his mind to figure out why he's doing it haha, it's a complete mystery.
