Well then..

So I see the cats poking at something in the cat room, don't think much of it. Expecting like a caterpillar or a small lizard. What do I find?

A snake.

A baby snake, but still a snake.

The cats wouldn't leave it alone and jumped when I touched them which made me jump and then I started sobbing out of fear one would be bit.

Now we have it in a jar waiting to go release it ELSEWHERE.

And now I'm stressed and therefore going to have nightmares..again.

Can you identify this snake? It's probably not venomous. It would be even better if you could post a photo. I'm sure your cats are gonna be fine. :3

Nobody got bit they are fine, but I have an anxiety disorder so it's kind of..yeah.

I don't think we have venomous around here. Snake bites would still hurt like all else though. I don't like the thought of them, or anyone I know, getting hurt.

I also don't like the possibility of there being more.

Hmm... I don't know what kind of snake that is. I'm not sure what state you live in, so I can't be sure of anything. Try googling "Snakes of (your state)" and see what comes up.

I don't live in California. ^-^'

I contacted my old teacher from the zoo I am currently volunteering at, and he's come to the conclusion that it is a Black Rat Snake, a very young one.

I found one on top of my fridge one night, when I lived in Alaska. Turns out it was a Mexican rat snake or something like that and it escaped from someone elses' apartment and slithered its way into mine. I was NOT a happy camper since I also have a pet chinchilla that it could of very easily of gotten to if it wanted.
