10 gallon hood?

I have a 10 gallon tank that my parents had lying in their basement but one issue, there is not a hood for it.
I have been looking around and a lot of hoods are expensive. So I was curious what sort of hoods anyone has gotten? Or has anyone made their own hoods? Or know of cheaper kinds of hoods that work?
I want to put bettas into the tank and I'd prefer they didn't have the opportunity to jump out.
I could always buy a tank with its own hood but then that leaves an empty, hoodless tank sitting around gathering dust. Any help?

I use these lids on my tanks.

They're cheap and work great at keeping humidity in the tank, and you lose virtually no water from condensation. The 20" will fit a standard 10 gallon.

If you don't mind some DIY and have access to a circular saw (hand held or table mounted) you can get some very cheap polycarbinate (looks like clear flexible glass) at HomeDepo and cut it to size/add air slits and openings for piping in and out of the tank. I have some on my cycling 55 gallon tank as a hood to keep future jumpers (not bought yet) in and the light fixtures out of the water.
