Help! First time Betta Owner!

My brother and I both bought Bettas the other day, and mine seems to be perfectly healthy and happy, while his isn't doing so great. He bought a crowntail betta, and it seems to be sick. It won't eat anything, and we've had him for three days. He also has this white stringy stuff on the bottom of his fins. There was also white stringy stuff coming out of his gill earlier, but it has seemed to have fallen off. He also seems to like staying near the top of the tank, and doesn't really want to move. Help! Please! He does have a filter in a 2.5 gallon tank, with a heater, keeping it at 80 degrees, and a pH of 7.4. Help!

Betta fish get there air by going to the top of the water. Maybe the fish is old and has trouble breathing. 'a few Questions 1 was he like that wen you bought him? he might have already been sick. I don't know that much like others but I would do my research and go back to the store with the fish and see what is wrong with a pro.

I would check around this site, someone is bound to know what is going on with your fish.

well pictures would help alot,,,how big is his tank is it heated? aquarium salt usually is the best and most natural thing you can use to help him get better

Google betta fish diseases in images and see if you can identify the white stringy stuff. It could be Columnaris.

And post a picture if you can. Keep him warm and add a litte aquarium salt to the tank in the meantime.
