Tank decorating not going so well!

I'm finally making my sorority tank =] and the theme is Sorority. I'm lame, I know. xD

Today I bought three plastic plants (soft) at Wal-Mart, not realizing that they are the kind you put under the gravel. Well....I don't have/want any gravel in my tank. I have some scattered plastic gems.
I have tried putting gems in the base of the plant, but they are too light. How can I weigh them down? I can't arrange them how I want them but they keep floating away.
-Then I have a regular plastic plant from Petco. It doesn't have a weighted base like some of them do....so it also floats (at least it stays right side up).

My girls need hiding spots that aren't going to float away!!!! I only have two plants that are staying put....how can I weigh the light ones down?

And I got a terra cotta pot (doesn't fit the design at all, but it was REALLY cheap and I can't find any safe caves that fit the theme). How do I prepare that for the tank? I want it right side up so I won't have to fill in the little hole. Do you rinse it with vinegar before putting it in the tank?

I wouldn't rinse the pot in anything but water. They absorb moisture and I'd worry that the vinegar would linger.

I was just about to suggest gluing plants to large rocks to weigh them down.

Hmmm I'll have to find that stuff she used. I'm currently dead broke. Spent all my money on the plants....boy oh boy do I need to get a job.

you can also buy suction cups and glue the plants to those and stick em down.

You can use a hot glue gun too, as long as the glue is clear. Well, assuming you have a hot glue gun.

Like with regular glue? I have a glue gun and the sticks are clear...those are aquarium safe?

Guess what I found at my LFS (not petco)? Plant Sinkers! They are just little metal bends you twist around the base of the plant! Aquarium safe (made for aquariums).
