Emergent plants

I've heard that emergent plants are great for removing ammonia. Something to do with the ease of getting carbon (CO2) to help them grow.

Bamboo, Anubias and other bog plants which can't be fully submerged but grow fine with roots in water; and floaters come to mind. (Floaters are almost emergent).

Wondering why this is not often done.

I think mostly because people just don't know about it or at least they don't realize the benefits of it.

I have two lucky "bamboo" stalks in my HOB at home and some mondo grass in the HOB for my work tank.

The benefits of being a nutrient sink really only happens with faster growing plants, floaters especially. The reason is is because they have access to many, many times more co2 which they use for growth, and as we all know fast growth equals good water.
