Soften water for cories?

I just bought some three-lined cories (they're darling!), and I found out that my water is on the hard side. I read that these little guys prefer soft water. I know this sounds like a silly question, but is there a way to soften hard water? Like a product you can buy or something? I want my cories to be happy and healthy! Thanks!

Peat, White Oak leave, or IAL will soften
Also blending RO and water will work
You will find that no matter what method you use it takes time and is just a pain to maintain.

Hmm... Do you think they really need that? I just happened to read on one site that they like soft water. Most people just talk about how hardy they are. Thanks for the info!

IMO/E-you don't need to make the water soft for the cory cats unless you plan to breed them-Generally, cory cats will adapt to your source water without problems, however, to stimulate spawning, egg development and fry G/D- changing the Kh/GH most likely will be needed.

IMO/E-it is safer to allow the fish to adapt to your source water-As rickey posted it can be a pain and time consuming to altar the water chemistry. If you don't know what you are doing or understand the proper way-it can sometimes do more harm than good from the rebound effect.

What is your KH/GH, pH of your source water...what is your source water and what type of testing kit are you using.

The water is city tap water conditioned with Prime. The KH is 180, GH is 150, pH is 7.8. I'm currently using Tetra Easy Strips; when I run out of strips, I'll be getting a liquid test kit. Thanks!
