Howdy from east Texas piney woods. Have had a Betta for almost a year now and we are very attached to this little guy. He was given to us as a gift
which was a surprise, so we bought an aquarium (10 gal.) put in silk plants
and some quartz crystals, heater and of course water filter. He was a Walmart fish (yuk) and only has one eye but we have given him the best we know how and so far he is doing ok. My guess he is about 18 months old,he
sees us and interacts following us and showing his beautiful fins. Knowing where he came from I don't expect he will live a long life but until it is his time he will continue to get loving care. We are elderly folks I am 76 the wife is 66 and we love wildlife of all kinds. I found this forum by accident and am sure glad, there is so much info and help not available elsewhere.

Welcome to the forum :) Sound like y'all are doing a good job with him.

You might be surprised at how long these little guys can live, I think the average is around 3 years, but I've heard of some bettas living to be 5 or 7. I think I heard one story where the owner had a male for 10 years, but I'm not sure if that was just a story or if it was true :) The better they're taken care of the longer they live generally.

Hello, my fiance' and I are getting ready to move into our new one bedroom apartment soon and we were thinking about getting a betta as a pet. I was just wondering how the little guy would do and if they are any special tips to keeping a betta in such a small environment?

I have 5 bettas in my 1 bedroom apartment with my husband and a cat lol. Your fish will do fine if you treat them right, pop on over to the care thread and you can get all the answers you need :)

Howdy, fellow newbie! I'm not quite as old as you guys, but definitely not a youngster. Bettas definitely appeal to all ages. I had one in the past who died of old age and recently got two more, which is what brought me here. Glad your little guy ended up in a great home.
