Anyone had dealings with alligator gar, Goliath tigerfish, arapaima, or giant snakeheads? I'm thinking that eventually I want to get a predatory tank with some of these beasts, or if I can, all of them. I was also thinking that it would be handy to go back to predatory fish (I used to have piranhas) for the purpose of culling deformed bettas... It would pain me to do so, but I would only feed the beasts the fish that are deformed to the point that their quality of life is questionable. I'm definitely against culling fish just because they are not quite as beautiful as their Kin. I think it Is cruel, that's just me though. I like the idea of giving the culled fish to local pet stores for store credit. Also, since the above mentioned monsters are so much bigger than betta, the fish would not suffer; they would just be swallowed whole. The main problem is the equipment needed to maintain fish of that size. Alligator gar often hit 7-8 ft long and several hundred pounds, with some specimens being much larger. Goliath tigerfish can hit 100+ pounds, snakeheads 40+ pounds(if I remember right), and arapaimas can reach 7-8 feet long and 400+ pounds! You would need such a monstrous tank to accommodate even just one of each! Anybody with prior experience with any of these fish, or better yet, pictures of fish being kept now, is more than welcome to join the thread.
