2.5 gallon to grow plants

Hey well it's me again, sorry if I ask too many questions but I like to start with the best advice I can get and what better place than here, where I've got a lot of help and for all that thank you.

now I'm starting this new project, I have a 2.5 gallon tank that I want to use to grow plants I have a fluorescent fixture, a heater and miracle grow organic soil. I added the soil to the tank today in the morning but water stills looking dark so I guess it will take some time, I started a thread asking for advice so from that I'll take the advice about snails, I will adopt a beautiful betta and get my hygro plants to grow in there with some salvinia and red root floaters, I have florish excel and I'll get sand tomorrow tank will have 8 hours of light and it's close to a Window

The question is: is there anything that I could be missing? Or anything to add or remove?

Again thanks for all your help :)

Perhaps a cap of pool filter or play sand on top of the soil? This will stop it floating around and clouding the water.

Be careful with sand from the petshop - a lot of is intended for cichlid tanks and will mess with your pH. Read the label very carefully.
