Anybody ever heard of "jewel/diamond eye" bettas?

After quite a bit of heartache and worrying over why my betta is going blind, among other issues, I discovered something while scouring forums. What he has looks very suspiciously like something I ran across called "jewel eye" or "diamond eye" bettas, where their eyes become shiny/iridescent like their bodies, which appears to cause vision problems. Well, he's definitely got serious vision problems. According to the cup when I bought him, he's a dragon scale halfmoon (I wasn't so sure - he doesn't look much like the ones I see), and that they can be more prone to developing this. It looks SOOOO similar.

Anyone else ever run across this in your time of fish keeping? (He's my first betta and I've had him ~1 year now... not exactly an expert haha.)

Here is a picture of someone else's betta whose eyes look similar:

And of Jippers (his eyes are the same iridescent color as his body):

It's caused when the pigments of badly bred dragonscales start growing over the eye. It is an opaque coating that usually grows from the outside in. If it is cloudy it can indicate a more serious issue.

I can't really tell the difference, but it wasn't from the outside in. Would a cloudy eye caused by something else be iridescent/shiny though? (He's developed this slowly over the course of 3-4 months)

If it's cloudy it shouldn't be iridescent... That would make me think that it is dragonscaling.

Here is a closer picture. I'm going to be trying to change his diet soon, maybe it's related to that..

From all the pictures I've seen around, he doesn't look much like a dragon scale, but that's what he was labeled as. I know it's not visible in the picture but he does have iridescence, it's part of what caught my eye in the store - and he's my first, so I had no idea what I was looking for health-wise when I bought him, plus this only developed 6+ months after buying him. :(

Well, he's not a "dragon," just a pretty little....oh, I guess you could call him a marble.

My copper plakat has always had a little cloudiness in his eyes. Hasn't gotten any worse in the year that I've had him

Wondering if this isn't what my betta has?

Although, this doesn't look like it's growing from the outside in. Definitely appears more inside the eye.

Thoughts? Help very appreciated!
