why don't you try with some kinds of food that lands in the bottom of the tank like bloodworms?
i ahve a betta that eats only bloodworms because he don't eat from the surface

I'll try them but since this is my first betta, I don't know anything about bloodworms. Do you buy them frozen?

You can buy them frozen or freeze dried. Freeze dried needs to be rehydrated before feeding to avoid digestive problems.
