We can't really help unless you know her reasons for not wanting to upgrade. :)

How big is the tank your using now? If it's less than 2 gal, it's better for your fish to have a larger tank. A 10g is as as good as a 5g. Actually, better, because it's more stable. Anyway, it's not that much bigger and not much more expensive. It's a good investment. And anything is better than a 1.5g.

Hi, Kaitlyn, I understand you want what's best for your fish. But a 4g tank is adequate, and better than many new keepers provide for their fish. Concentrate on building up the tank you have.

You can get more plants, which includes proper lighting. I assume you have a heater. If you have a filter, you can cycle a 4g tank easily and safely. And you should. That will improve his water quality.

Bottom feeders need to be kept in schools of at least 6 members. You can't put any other fish in there. But a Nerite snail would be fine (it doesn't reproduce). And several shrimp are always fun to have.

You can upgrade his diet with New Life Spectrum or Omega One pellets. Maybe some frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp. There's plenty to spend your allowance on before upgrading to a larger tank.

Thanks Hallyx :) i would love to spend my money buying stuff for
my fish but that is part of the problem, my mom says that he is fine and i dont need to buy anything else. I am going to try to have a nice conversation with her today and find out why she doesnt want me to get a bigger tank and such and if there is any way i can change her mind. You have been a big help on every topic i have posted thank you so much.
