Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? looks like a bad case of dropsy but scales are not sticking out, they have stretched to accommodate the large belly
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? not at all, she is very active, social, very hungry as always, and seems perfectly fine. no signs of disease, no red streaks, no fin rot, etc.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? about 6 weeks ago
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? no
Does your fish have any history of being ill? no
How old is your fish (approximately)? a year and a half

note: the redness in her bottom fin is the coloring in the photo, it doesn't look red or bloody in person, my lighting was horrible and she has blue and red in her fins normally.

I've dealt with dropsy before and the fish always died within a week or so, this is going on 6 weeks and started out as a bump on her one side, I thought it was a tumor but then it grew and stuck out on the other side too and the bottom. I look at her from the top daily, no scales sticking out at all. Her scales have stretched out to accommodate the big belly and its starting to look a little red and painful. She eats normally and acts normal, very active, no lying on the bottom or being lethargic at all. I thought maybe it was kidney failure without any bacterial infection, since dropsy is a symptom of kidney failure and there are no other signs of illness or stress but it's been 6 weeks maybe more. There's no way this could be egg bound right? It started at her side not her stomach underneath.

Anyone have suggestions or seen this go on for weeks like this before?

Oh ok, what do I need to do then and will she survive? could this happen even if the first bump came out of her side instead of where her stomach is? she looks like she's gonna explode her skin is all stretched out and it looks painful but she doesn't seem to notice.

It's long thin strings but it's a normal color. Normally it would be like blobs..

I dunno if maybe the swelling is pushing on her organs to make it that way..like compressing her stomach a little..
