Swimbladder problems can be a result of injury, also. I had one that I rescued from my cousin 's little brat that had been knocked over by their cat and left to lay on the floor. He miraculously survived after I took him but he had swimbladder problems. Swimbladder problems aren't usually fatal but lowering the water level so they can get air and feeding them a good diet and keeping them in clean, warm water can definitely help.

Unfortunately it isn't. Do you have a recommendation for an adjustable heater? My tank is 3 gallons. I think Buttercup will appreciate it greatly since he bites his tail so much when the temp is above 85.

The only adjustable heaters I've ever used were Marineland but they heated my 2.5 gallon critter keeper to like 85*. It might work in a 3 gallon, though.

Is there a certain Marineland one I should look for?

I had a Marineland stealth and I don't remember which one I have now. The stealth was the one that went bad on me.
