Always have see the ammonia & its been pretty consistent the nitrates have been there for the past 2 weeks . I just did a larger water change. I have been doing about 30% but decided to do 50 to see if the ammonia goes down further.
What water conditioner are you using? Have you tested your tap water for ammonia? My 6.6 gallon just cycled (fishlessly) and I found that my Prime water conditioner is giving me a false reading for ammonia. It constantly stays around .25. AND my tap is at .5. Disgusting.
Small tanks are hard to cycle. What I did was cycle my 6.6 and then will be using media from that tank to cycle my other tanks faster. You may want to consider that as well. And fishless cycling is easier and easier on the fish. Maybe remove your fish and do it by adding ammonia, and then when it's done put him back in? Then use that media to seed the other small ones.
Me? It took about 4 weeks. I had two air pump driven filters in there and it didn't go anywhere for a while. When I put a better filter in it sped right up. It probably would have been much faster than 4 weeks had I had the proper filter in there in the first place.
