5 gallon?

My Betta, Paco is currently living in a small (~1 gal) tank. There is one tiny plant in there. What I'm saying is...he is in a SUPER LAME setup right now.

The tank I'm hoping to buy is this one:

I'll have to slow down the filter, but otherwise is it a good tank for ONE Betta? (No other fish at all).

And are these appropriate decorations for a Betta? http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...ductId=2752223

Also, will I need to buy a heater? If so, where can I purchase a good one for little money?

Any other tips are GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Hey!

Recently (like 2 days ago) i upgraded my tank from a ~1gal to a 5gal. Pretty similar situation that u are in. Check out the pic of my new set up. (Thread called - IS MY TANK TOO CROWDED on the same board) Ive pretty much figured that i will be doing full water changes every week so i removed the filter (my betta was less then impressed with it) I also purchased the tetra automatic (preset) heater from wal mart for the 2-15gal. Its working perfectly. I suggest gettinga cheap-o vacuum even if you will be doing full water changes...as to maintain the good bacteria in the gravel.

Anyways...hope that helped a little. Get ready for your betta to complete transform....since the "move" my freddy is happier then a pig in shh.....well LOL u know what i mean! :)

Tank - YES, great tank for one betta, definitely no other fish.

Decorations - the arch is good, but plastic plants tend to rip their fins (imagine wet tissue paper and you've got betta fins). I'd suggest silk plants. A good test for plants is to run pantyhose over them. If they snag, they'll snag betta fins. And you'd be surprised what actually snags!

Heater - you can get the preset ones from Walmart, but if you ever need to up the temp to treat some illness, you'll have to buy another. I recommend this seller on ebay: pmioutlet. Great service, and very cheap heater prices. He sells an adjustable heater that I purchased and works great.
