So me and the little one headed out to PetSmart today to start getting our Betta supplies.
We picked up the 5 gal Aqueon Minibow aquarium. I give a big thumbs up to this tank so far. It is acrylic but for me (and the fact I was carrying it home on the bus) that is OK. One of the biggest things I'm impressed with is the filter...it is silent! I had to keep checking to see if it was working it is so quiet.
We also bought gravel, some water conditioner, a vacuum, fish net, and a frill plant (live).
They were out of the heater I wanted and they didn't have the testing kit I was looking for either. That's OK since we weren't buying our fish yet so we can get his home set up first.
We set up the tank with what we have so far. I definatly need to get more plants. The guy at the store was under the impression that one plant would be plenty. Well my one plant looks kinda sad and all alone. I think next time I go I'll pick up maybe two more frill and some java fern.
I've been suprised at how excited my 5 year old has been through all this. She was all involved in each part of the set up and is more than happy that we are getting the fishes home all ready. I thought she would be bummed out that we weren't buying the actual fish today but she agreed that we needed to have a "happy home" for the fish first. :)
