Eating Problem!?

My new guy Sphinx it seems that everytime I feed him(pellets and flakes) he only eats while the food is floating down. He doesn't eat when the food's on top and sometimes he's following something he misses it then it hits the gravel and he just stares at it and swims away. I 'm concerned because when I feed him flakes he only eats like 2 and when I feed him pellets someties he doesn't eat any at all. Why does he do that and how could I stop it or what do I do?

Maybe try some frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, etc.) or live food, (black worms).

But I know it's not healthy to just feed him that all the time.

You could try soaking the pellets.

I do 10 to 15 minutes but you can experiment what works best for your fish. :)
