is he okay?

Is Valnlentine okay?
Well Valentine doesn't seem himself. Usually when im around he would go to me. When I open the hood of the tank we would be there waiting for food. He hasn't eaten today...
But for the past few days he's just been laying on the bottom of the tank or he was hiding behind the plastic mesh with java moss background. I took it out cos I don't know how safe he'll be back there. He's just not himself.
He had a tank mate Irvy who died from ick. Maybe he's depressed cos he misses Irvy?
I did a 100% water change when Irvy passed, been checking him to make sure he doesnt have ick, and i dont see any on him.
Anyways I thought maybe he's depressed and also maybe he doesnt like the tank light so I turned it off.
Any comments/ suggestions on what else I should do? Am I just worrying over nothing? Please anything would help

Is it a divided tank? What was the tank mate?

It would be awesome if you could fill this out:

Housing
What size is your tank?
What temperature is your tank?
Does your tank have a filter?
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?
Is your tank heated?
What tank mates does your betta fish live with?

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?
How often do you feed your betta fish?

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change?
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
How old is your fish (approximately)?

What size is your tank? 10 gallon divided for his tank mate betta who recently passed due to ick
What temperature is your tank? 78
Does your tank have a filter? Yes
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No
Is your tank heated? Yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? Right now just the mystery snail, he used to have a neighbor betta who died from ick

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Life Spectrum, frozen bloodworms
How often do you feed your betta fish? 2 times a day

How often do you perform a water change? Every 2 weeks, sometimes once week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50%, when I do once a week change will be like 10 jar full of water
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Water conditioner

No water tester

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Looks sad? Not showing his beautiful fins like before
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Spends most of his time hiding, staying at dark places
When did you start noticing the symptoms? I noticed it after my other betta passed
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? When my other betta passed I did 100% wc, then I thought maybe the reason he was different because he doesn't like the tank light so I turned it off
Does your fish have any history of being ill? He had ick before which I caught and cured
How old is your fish (approximately)? Bought him from petstore so im guessing around 6 months?

Everything looks pretty good so I'm guessing its a combination of no more buddy to flare at and the 100% water change. I'd keep a close eye on him for signs of infection in case it is ick related though and give him a few days to perk back up before worrying too much
