OK - since Fins had ICH &
some sort of fungus/white stuff (probably columnaris) I've decided to take everything out & sterilize it (not just let the tank sit for a few weeks which is what I had originally considered).
I couldn't stand it if I got a new fish & he got sick because I didn't properly clean the tank!!
It's a 6 gal eclipse with a flourite base & about 7 plants.
The plants I'll dip in potassium permangante (used bleach when I bought them but I still think that's where the ICH came from) for about 15 minutes & then rinse really well (regular tap water & then dechlor water or just dechlor water?)
For the gravel I figure I'd bleach (20:1?) & rinse the heck out of it.
For the filter I thought I'd dip that in chlorine water. The biowheel also.
And let the tank sit w/ some chlorine water - then rinse the heck out of it.
Fortunately it's supposed to be nice this weekend so I should be able to do this outside. I wonder what potassium permanganate does to grass??
I'm so not looking forward to this but I want to do this right.
It will allow me to do a bit of re-scaping so that's a plus!
