Exclamation One stressed fishy...

So the other day I was doing a 50 percent water change in my aquarium and I take my fish out so he won't get sloshed around. After 10 minutes of trying to catch him in a net and putting him in a separate container, he swims, jumps, flares, and starts attacking the container. I am a little worried about it because I do not want him to seriously hurt himself. I need to get water changes done, but I do not want to traumatize the poor little guy either.

So what I am asking is if there is anything I can do to help him cope with all of this when it comes time?

Some bettas totally freak out when you do water changes. I had a CT that acted like I was murdering him trying to get him out of the tank. You could get a bigger tank, 5G or more and cycle it so you never have to take him out (you'd only have to do 50% or 30% water changes). How do you go about getting him out of the tank? I use a big net. Before I catch them, I take everything out, plants decor etc. So that way I'll have an easy sweep and it won't stress them out. You can also cup them and train them to go into it. I cup Zeus my King instead of netting him. I just put the bowl in the water and it kind if suctions him into it.lol

If you have a 5 gallon, you don't need to take him out unless you're doing 100% water changes. If you do have a 5 gallon, may I ask why you aren't cycling ?

I never take my bettas out - ever. Not unless I'm doing something major.
