My fish Squirt has been floating at the top of his tank alot. About two days ago he was floating on his side at the top of the tank, i fed him and put him in a smaller bowl. In about 2 hours he looked perfectly fine, he was able to swim to the bottom without floating back up. I went to a friends house for the night and came back to him doing it again. I put him in his old tank and changed his water and cleaned everything. I think it might be that he had too much salt in his tank? Hes still doing it now and he has to be underneath his rock thing to keep from floating back up. I've almost had him for two years, it may be age too. Pleaseee Help, Squirt was my first betta and he's super special to me. Thanks!
Does he look bloated at all, like he swallowed a small ball? That means he's constipated, so fasting him for a couple days will help with the swelling. You can also buy daphnia which helps with constipation.
Yeah, it kind of does. I tried a small piece of a cooked pea, it worked, thats why he was much better, then i left him for a day and he went back to that. I heard that feeding them pieces of peas is bad for their digestive systems or something? I'll fast him and see how that does.

Yeah, peas aren't good for them. Just fast him and watch for him to poop. You should make sure he's in warm, clean water and putting a towel or something over his tank will help also. If he's stressed out, the dark will help.
Thanks sooo much :D Right now hes just circling at the top of his tank very slowly, since he can't go down to the bottom. I feel bad :/ But hopefully he'll be better soon!
This isn't true. It's a great way to clear out constipation, which is a very common problem. Of course, peas shouldn't be used as a part of the normal diet, but saying that they aren't good for them isn't exactly an accurate statement. Just FYI.
